Meet The Trainer

Hello! My name is Kelsey Lantzer! I am so excited to have the opportunity to introduce myself!

I am an animal lover, but dogs have always been my absolute favorite! My mom has some very embarrassing pictures and videos of how I use to pretend to be a dog! Geeze it almost just as embarrassing admitting it.

I started my dog training journey when I was 17. My mom got me a border collie I named Stanley! I was so excited that within the first week I had him doing all the cool tricks, from shaking my hand to spinning around and ending in a bow. I took Stanley everywhere with me. We often would go to the dog park to meet up with all his doggy friends. Then at about a year old he started becoming aggressive. Lunging at other dogs and even getting into a few dog fights at the dog park. It ended up escalating from there and he started lunging at people too! I was pretty defeated, to say the least. That was when I started on my journey to learn everything, I could about training dogs.

Since then, I have had a lot of major life changes that have steered me off the path of dog training, but I have always come back. Dog training is my passion!

In 2012, I joined the Marine Corps and served 4 years. After I got out of the Marine Corps, I started a family. During this time, I still had my challenges with Stanley. While I was away in the service, Stanley seemed to get uncontrollable for my mom. She couldn’t walk him during certain times of the day because he would randomly walk by someone and try to grab them. Once I was out of the service, I was able to curb the behavior, but I was still not comfortable with him around kids and there I was having my own. Trust me when I say he was not happy when we brought our son home form the hospital (reference picture Hahaha). It took a lot of time and we had to have a very structured home, but with consistency we made it!

That is just the story of where my passion developed. In 2021, I reached out to a trainer in the local area to intern with. He was a fellow Marine Corps veteran that served 12 years as a K9 handler! I interned with him for 8 months before he moved out of state. After the internship, I still wanted to have a formal job as a dog trainer before setting out on my own. I applied at North County Canine, and they hired me as dog trainer. While working at NCC, I learned so much! I was put into an environment where I was able to explore not just the obedience side of training but specialty training as well. During my time with NCC, I learned about the foundation of bite work and decoying. I always strive to learn more about training and furthering my knowledge.

I am so excited to continue my dog training journey and have you be part of it! Every day I learn something new, every dog is a new opportunity to learn and grow. I truly love working with dogs and it is even more rewarding when the client expresses how much their relationship with their dog has grown.

Please enjoy all my pictures of my family and all my dogs and animals. :)
